Safe Cities Project officially inaugurated in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Mar, 2026) A modern urban security system has officially been launched in Peshawar on Wednesday with the inauguration of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Safe Cities Project.

The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa formally inaugurated the project, marking a significant step toward strengthening public safety and surveillance across the provincial capital.

The Safe City initiative has been completed at a cost of Rs 2.23 billion and aims at providing an advanced and integrated security system. Under the project, 711 modern surveillance cameras have been installed at 133 key locations across the city.

During the ceremony, officials briefed the Chief Minister that the Command and Control Center will integrate urban surveillance, emergency response services and traffic management into a unified system to ensure improved coordination and rapid response.

These cameras installed at the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network, the Red Zone and other sensitive locations will be integrated into the new system.

The project also includes smart surveillance vehicles, drones, an anti-drone system and 68 panic buttons to enhance citizen safety and security.

Officials expressed confidence that the initiative will significantly improve law enforcement efficiency and ensure better protection for residents of Peshawar.
