kHANEWAL, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Feb, 2026) A comprehensive development plan worth Rs 6.5 billion has been prepared for Khanewal city under the Punjab Development Programme (PDP), a flagship initiative of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The district administration has taken the political leadership on board regarding the proposed projects.
Under the programme, major schemes will focus on rainwater storage, improvement of the sewerage system, installation of tuff tiles, and street lighting to upgrade urban infrastructure and address longstanding civic issues.
The plan was reviewed in a meeting chaired by MNA Muhammad Khan Daha, where detailed consultations were held on identifying suitable sites for rainwater storage facilities. Provincial Parliamentary Secretary Rana Muhammad Saleem Haneef and Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rashid were also present.
During the meeting, officials of the Punjab Development Program were tasked with finalizing the project plan and initiating practical work immediately after the holy month of Ramadan.
Addressing the participants, MNA Muhammad Khan Daha emphasized that there would be no compromise on the quality or pace of development work. He described the “Sohna Punjab” initiative as a historic step by the Chief Minister and vowed that its benefits would reach the public at all costs.
Provincial Parliamentary Secretary Rana Muhammad Saleem Haneef stressed that all projects should be designed with future needs in mind, noting that the Punjab government is giving priority attention to resolving sewerage-related problems.
The DC informed the meeting that, under the Punjab Development Programme, development schemes worth Rs32 billion would be completed across various cities of the district.
Officials from the district administration, the Punjab Development Program, and National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) also attended the session.
