Rs40,500 fine imposed on vendors for overcharging, unhygienic foods items

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Mar, 2026) Acting on multiple public complaints, the district administration has imposed a Rs40,500 fine on several vendors for selling substandard food items during the holy month of Ramazan.

According to the administration, Assistant Commissioner Syed Muhammad Arsalan paid a surprise inspection to Eidgah Gali after receiving complaints from people regarding overcharging and sale of unhygienic foods and thoroughly inspected general stores, chicken shops, food stalls, fruit and vegetable vendors, as well as milk and yogurt shops.

Several violations were identified during the operation, including failure to display official price lists, overcharging customers, use of faulty and inaccurate weighing scales, and selling underweight naan compared to the officially issued rate list.

In addition, some vendors were found using unhealthy and stale cooking oil, while expired items had not been discarded as required.

During the inspection, approximately five liters of unhealthy oil were destroyed on the spot, and a total fine of Rs 40,500 was imposed on the violators.

The Assistant Commissioner warned that strict action would continue against anyone endangering public health.

The district administration reiterated that prompt action was being taken on public complaints and urged citizens to report cases of profiteering and other violations to ensure timely enforcement.
