Rs30 mln recovered, 10 booked as PESCO intensifies anti-power theft drive

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Jul, 2026) The PESCO teams recovered more than Rs 30 million in outstanding electricity dues and registered cases against 10 alleged power thieves during a large-scale crackdown in the Paharpur Sub-Division.

As part of the operation, electricity supply to 19 transformers and an entire village was also disconnected over non-payment of dues.

The operation was launched on the directives of SE PESCO Dera Circle Engineer Hizbullah Mehsud and carried out under the supervision of Acting XEN Rural Division Engineer Sanaullah Khan. The campaign was led by SDO PESCO Paharpur Sub-Division Engineer Shaukatullah Mehsud.

According to PESCO, electricity connections were disconnected after consumers failed to clear outstanding bills. These included a 50-KVA transformer at Ikram Marwat Mangla Boring with arrears of Rs One million, a transformer in Bugwani Shumali owing Rs Five million, electricity supply to Sardaray Wala village over unpaid dues of Rs 6.75 million, four transformers in Segra with arrears of Rs 6.3 million, a 100-KVA transformer in Mithapur Khurd owing Rs 3.291 million, three transformers in the Laar area with dues of Rs 7.4 million, and nine transformers in Jabbar Wala over outstanding payments of Rs nine million.

The PESCO team also continued its campaign against electricity theft. In the jurisdiction of Kirri Khaisour Police Station, cases were registered against Murid Abbas, Ghulam Yasin, Ghulam Qasim and Muhammad Iqbal for allegedly stealing electricity in Bilot Sharif, Jhok Venus and Madi Khel.

Similarly, in the jurisdiction of Paharpur Police Station, six people, including Malik Khan, Shah Nawaz Baloch, Shakeel, Sikandar and Iqbal, were booked for allegedly using illegal direct connections, commonly known as kundas, to steal electricity in Dhakki and Kachi Kath Garh.

Talking to media, SDO Engineer Shaukatullah Mehsud said electricity theft was a crime that inflicted serious losses on the national economy and warned that no leniency would be shown to offenders. He urged upon the people using illegal connections to remove them voluntarily or face strict legal action.

He also appealed to consumers to clear their outstanding dues promptly, warning that electricity supply to defaulters would continue to be disconnected without discrimination during the ongoing recovery campaign.
