Rs 6.5bn plan ready for urban facilities upgrade in Khanewal

KHANEWAL, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Feb, 2026) A Rs 6.5 billion plan has been finalised under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s flagship ‘Punjab Development Program’ to give citizens a taste of upgraded urban facilities in Khanewal cty including rainwater storages, sewerage system development, street lights, pavement with concrete tiles and others.

According to deputy commissioner Maleeha Rasheed, the Rs 6.5 billion funding was part of a wider Rs 32 billion investment the provincial government is planned to pump into Khanewal district areas’s uplift including tehsil Khanewal, Kabirwala, Abdul Hakeem and Mian Channu.

MNA Muhammad Khan Daha chaired an official meeting here Friday with provincial parliamentary secretary Rana Muhammad Saleem Hanif, deputy commissioner Maleeha Rasheed, besides officials from PDP, Nespak and district government in attendance, and discussions remained focused on selecting rainwater storage sites.

It was decided in the meeting that PDP officials should start executing the plan soon after Ramazan ul Mubarak. Daha said that beautifying Punjab and placing upgraded urban facilities across the province, preferably the under-developed and far flung areas, was the mission of Chief Minister Punjab. There will be no compromise on quality of work, material and completion timelines, he added.

Rana Saleem Hanif asked officials to design projects keeping in view the future requirements of the population. He said, Punjab government was taking steps on priority to resolve sewerage related problems in Khanewal.
