Rs 309,000 fine imposed, 26 shops sealed over profiteering

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th May, 2026) The district administration, on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ijaz, sealed 26 shops, registered two cases and imposed fines amounting to Rs309,000 during a citywide crackdown against profiteers and violators of official price control regulations.

During the ongoing drive, price control magistrates conducted inspections at 4,688 locations across Lahore to ensure implementation of official prices of essential commodities.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz said strict legal action was being taken against shopkeepers involved in overpricing and violation of government rates, adding that supply of vegetables further improved after arrival of 82 trucks carrying potatoes and onions in local markets, helping stabilise availability of essential food items. Noticeable reductions were also recorded in prices of melons, apples and local lemons, while prices of okra and green chillies also witnessed a visible decline.

He added that prices of potatoes, bananas, cabbage and dates remained stable due to continuous monitoring of supply chains and market activities. He directed authorities to continue strict action against profiteers and ensure that shopkeepers prominently display official price lists at their outlets. He also instructed market committees to address public complaints on priority basis and maintain uninterrupted supply of essential commodities.

The DC said strict action against profiteers was a clear message for illegal profiteers, adding that close monitoring of supply chains had helped maintain price stability in markets. He said the district administration was ensuring abundant availability of essential items while protection of public rights and enforcement of law remained its top priority.
