Rs.23bln sewerage upgrade project launched in Faisalabad: secretary

FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Feb, 2026) Provincial Secretary for Housing, Urban Development & Public Health Engineering Noor-ul-Amin Mengal announced the launch of a Rs. 23 billion development package for upgrading Faisalabad’s sewerage system.

He said that its first phase would be completed by June 2026 followed by completion of second phase by June 2027 for a sustainable and comprehensive solution to long-standing drainage problems of the city.

Reviewing construction work of an underground storage tank at Crescent Ground, he said that under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz, similar sewerage upgradation schemes worth Rs.200 billion are underway across the province, which are expected to be game-changers for urban service delivery.

He highlighted that multiple underground storage tanks are being constructed at strategic ponding points across Faisalabad to ensure prompt drainage of rainwater during the monsoon season.

Special safety and monitoring measures have been mandated for all development schemes to prevent negligence or lapses in execution, he added.

He stressed that all projects should be completed before the onset of monsoon this year for ensuring dissemination of benefit of these initiatives in a timely manner.

Managing Director WASA Saqib Raza briefed the provincial secretary about the project and said that second phase of the Punjab Development Program includes four additional underground storage tanks at Crescent Park on Sheikhupura Road, near General Hospital in Ghulam Muhammad Abad, Pakistan Chowk on Narwala Road and Hockey Stadium Madina Town on Susan Road.

The estimated cost of constructing these four tanks is Rs.875.7 million and the Crescent Park project is expected to be completed by July 2026, it would enable rapid drainage of water accumulating at Millat Chowk and other key points in the city, he added.
