Responsible, positive journalism a key need of society: Governor Sindh

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Apr, 2026) Governor Sindh, Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi on Monday said that media was a key pillar of society and responsible as well as positive journalism was the need of the hour.

He added that constructive journalism played an important role in promoting awareness and social betterment.

He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of the Press Council of Pakistan (PCP) at the Governor House here on Monday.

The delegation was led by Chairman Press Council of Pakistan Arshad Khan Jadoon. The meeting focused on the positive role of media and its significance in improving society. The Governor Sindh stressed that strict adherence to journalistic ethics, avoidance of sensationalism, and responsible reporting were essential requirements.

On the occasion, Chairman PCP, Arshad Khan Jadun briefed the Governor Sindh regarding the autonomy and role of the Press Council of Pakistan, stating that it was an independent institution working to improve media standards.

He said that ensuring implementation of the Code of Ethics was a core responsibility, and efforts were underway to curb negative language in newspapers and promote responsible expression.

He further informed that the Press Council of Pakistan included representation from Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, All Pakistan Newspaper Society, the Bar Council, and two members of the National Assembly.

The delegation also apprised the Governor Sindh of various issues and challenges being faced by the Press Council of Pakistan, on which the Governor Sindh assured full cooperation and resolution of matters through relevant forums.

The delegation included Qazi Asad Abid, Fauzia Shaheen, Faqir Muhammad Bachal Laghari, Aamir Latif, and others.
