DERA ISMAIL KHAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Mar, 2026) The residents of areas connected to the Degree College feeder blocked a major road at GPO Chowk on Wednesday, burning tyres and suspending traffic to protest against up to 20 hours of electricity load shedding during the holy month of Ramazan.
The protest was led by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Tehsil Ameer Kafeel Ahmed Nizami, Advocate Akhtar Saeed, Pakistan Muslim League-Q leader Advocate Haroon Awan, and others. The protest demonstrators said the prolonged and “unjust” power outages during the blessed month had made daily life extremely difficult and demanded an immediate reduction in the loadshedding hours.
During the protest, Kafeel Ahmed Nizami contacted JUI-F District Ameer Maulana Lutfur Rehman by phone and informed him about the public’s concerns. Maulana Lutfur Rehman subsequently reached out to the Chief Executive of PESCO Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urging him to review the loadshedding schedule for the Degree College feeder and other feeders in the area.
According to protest leaders, the PESCO chief directed local authorities to reassess the electricity outage timings. The demonstration ended after DSP City Circle Malik Abid Iqbal assured protesters that the issue would be addressed.
Later, a delegation of residents led by Kafeel Ahmed Nizami met PESCO Rural Division XEN Engineer Muaz Ahmed wherein SDO Cantt Sanaullah Khan and Hafiz Nisar Ahmed were also present during the meeting.
Engineer Muaz Ahmed assured the delegation that the 20-hour load shedding on the Degree College feeder would be immediately reduced to 16 hours. He also announced relief of two to four hours in load shedding on the Cantt feeder and several other feeders.
Following the assurance, Kafeel Ahmed Nizami thanked PESCO authorities and JUI-F District Ameer Maulana Lutfur Rehman for their efforts in addressing the issue.
