RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Mar, 2026) Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi and Murree responded to more than 7,300 emergencies in February, providing timely assistance to thousands of victims, according to monthly performance reports released on Wednesday.
In the Rawalpindi district, Rescue 1122 received 5,666 emergency calls during the month. The incidents included road traffic accidents, fires, crimes, drowning cases, gas and cylinder explosions, medical emergencies and other mishaps.
The report showed that 1,186 road traffic accidents, 141 fire incidents, 111 crime cases, seven gas or cylinder explosions, 262 falls from height and 547 other emergencies were recorded. During the same period, 3,409 patients were provided first aid and shifted to nearby hospitals.
Out of the total 5,666 emergencies, 5,405 victims were provided with timely rescue services. The service maintained its average response time and ensured prompt action on every call, officials said.
In the 1,186 traffic accidents, 1,356 people were affected, including 20 who died, 601 who sustained serious injuries and 735 with minor injuries. The victims comprised 1,140 men and 216 women. Over-speeding, careless driving, improper turns and tyre bursts were cited among the major causes. Most victims were aged between 11 and 40 years, with car and motorcycle riders the most affected.
Meanwhile, 141 fire incidents were reported across the district, in which 14 people were injured. Rescue firefighters responded swiftly and saved property worth approximately Rs 276 million from potential damage. Short circuits, careless use of cigarettes and gas leakages were among the main causes of fires.
In the Murree district, the service received 1,656 emergency calls and provided assistance to 1,655 victims. Of them, 882 were administered first aid and shifted to various hospitals in Murree, while 609 were treated on the spot. Twenty-two people died in different incidents.
The emergencies in Murree included 95 road traffic accidents, 18 fire incidents, 129 falls from height, 12 cases of brawls and scuffles, 1,082 medical emergencies, 142 patient transfer service (PTS) calls and 178 other cases. Under the Punjab Emergency Service’s patient transfer programme, 142 critically ill patients were safely shifted from Murree to hospitals in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
A Rescue 1122 spokesman stressed that public awareness, fire safety training and strict adherence to traffic rules were essential to reduce road accidents and fire incidents. He said the service remained available round the clock and that public trust was its most valuable asset.
