Rescue 1122 provided emergency care to over 54,000 mourners: secretary

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jun, 2026) Secretary Emergency Services Department (ESD) Punjab Dr Rizwan Naseer has appreciated the dedication and professionalism of rescuers of Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) for ensuring comprehensive emergency medical cover during Muharram across the province.

Chairing a post-Muharram review meeting at the Emergency Services Headquarters here on Saturday, he said Rescue 1122 provided emergency medical services to 54,247 mourners during 6,369 Majalis and processions across Punjab. Of them, 52,731 mourners who sustained injuries during self-flagellation were provided first aid and wound dressings at the sites, while 1,516 seriously injured persons were shifted to hospitals for specialized treatment.

Dr Rizwan Naseer said Rescue 1122 maintained uninterrupted emergency services throughout Muharram and responded to more than 67,610 emergencies across the province from 1st to 10th Muharram, alongside providing emergency cover to religious gatherings.

The meeting, attended by directors, heads of various wings and senior officers of the Emergency Services Department, was informed that Muharram emergency plans were implemented in coordination with deputy commissioners in all districts.

More than 12,000 rescuers, 896 ambulances, 2,300 rescue motorbikes and 316 fire and rescue vehicles remained deployed to provide emergency cover to 6,369 Majalis and processions across Punjab.

The participants were told that, in addition to Muharram duties, Rescue 1122 responded to 67,610 emergencies, including 47,726 medical emergencies, 12,189 road traffic accidents, 840 fire incidents and 6,855 other emergencies.

According to the operational briefing, the highest number of mourners receiving emergency medical assistance was reported in Multan (3,631), followed by Dera Ghazi Khan (3,190), Faisalabad (3,053), Hafizabad (2,847), Muzaffargarh (2,506), Jhang (2,478) and Sheikhupura (2,305), while 33,936 mourners were provided emergency medical services in the remaining districts of Punjab.

The secretary commended the rescuers for their commitment to public service and emphasized that Rescue 1122 would continue to strengthen its preparedness and response capacity to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens during religious events and other emergencies.
