PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Feb, 2026) Prominent Buddhist religious leaders, FRA Anil Sakya from Thailand and Upali Anunayake Thero from Sri Lanka, visited Peshawar and called on the Commissioner of Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud.
The Commissioner warmly received the distinguished guests and other accompanying religious scholars and hosted a dinner in their honor.
During the meeting, the visiting delegation expressed that Pakistan, particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Peshawar, was a peaceful and secure place for them. They highlighted that Peshawar and its surrounding areas are home to significant historical and sacred sites associated with Buddhism.
The delegation also praised the hospitality and kindness of the local people.
The foreign religious leaders stated that they consider Pakistan a safe and peaceful destination for pilgrims and tourists from Thailand and Sri Lanka. They expressed keen interest in promoting religious tourism and visiting Peshawar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa again in the future.
Both sides also held detailed discussions on promoting interfaith harmony and enhancing cultural ties between the countries.
