FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Feb, 2026) The experts said that reimagining extension services through heritage help rebuild trust between extension workers and farmers that would promote latest technology and increase productivity.
They were addressing an international seminar titled “Reimagining Extension through Heritage” organized by Society of Extension Educationists, Institute of Agriculture Extension, education and Rural Development at University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF).
Speaking on the occasion, Dr S. M. Chinthaka Bandara Karalliyadda from Rajarata University of Sri Lanka said that agricultural extension services can be strengthened by reconnecting farmers with their heritage.
He highlighted that blending indigenous practices with modern technologies can enhance sustainability at grassroots level.
He said that indigenous knowledge is promoting sustainable agricultural development.
He stressed that learning form past is essential to address present and future challenges.
He said that ancestors relied on observation, experience and harmony with nature, resulting in developing resilient systems of agriculture.
Director Agriculture Extension Prof Dr Babar Shahbaz said that past knowledge should not be overlooked but preserved and integrated with modern scientific approaches. He said that when farmers see their cultural practices respected, they are more open to adopting new technologies. He noted that combining local traditions with modern tools can enhance communication, strengthen learning and promote sustainable agricultural development.
Dr Ijaz Ashraf said that heritage is not about the past alone but a guide for the future. Extension systems should incorporate cultural values and traditional problem-solving methods which would result in more efficacy in agriculture sector, he added.
