LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Jul, 2026) The Punjab government has decided to change the registration system of vehicles and motorcycles, under which the vehicle will be registered before it leaves the showroom.
According to Excise officials, for this purpose, all dealers across Punjab will be made part of the Dealer Vehicles Registration System.
The excise authorities have also decided to increase the service charges. According to the new proposal, the service charges of motorcycles will be increased from Rs 500 to Rs 1000, while the service charges of vehicles will be increased from Rs 2000 to Rs 4000.
According to officials, all Motor Registration Authorities of Punjab have been provided with lists for registration of dealers, while Motor Registration Authorities (MREs) have been directed to contact dealers and invite them to join the registration process.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Excise officials say that a summary has been sent to the government to facilitate the issuance of DVRS licenses and reduce fees. Currently, there are only 102 DVRS licensees in Punjab, including Lahore, for the last 11 years, of which 96 dealers have the authority to register motorcycles while 6 dealers have the authority to register cars.
On the other hand, the car Dealers Association has expressed reservations about issuing licenses to every showroom and raised questions about the new system.
