RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Feb, 2026) Acting on the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi, Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani, police have arrested 365 professional beggars during a 40-day crackdown across the city.

According to police spokesman, those taken into custody include 149 men, 199 women, and 17 transgender persons.

He said special squads have been formed to intensify action against professional beggars, particularly on busy roads and main highways.

He stated that strict monitoring is underway to prevent begging on major thoroughfares, where such activities often cause traffic disruptions and inconvenience to citizens.

He added that many professional beggars are also found involved in other crimes, including theft and drug peddling.

The crackdown is being carried out in line with the vision of the Punjab Chief Minister, with police vowing to continue operations to curb professional begging and maintain order in the city, spokesman said.
