ISLAMABAD: The gas crisis has intensified across parts of the country due to the non-arrival of RLNG shipments, leading to a significant decline in supply levels, sources said.
The gas shortage is at a critical level based on Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) sources due to no new regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) arriving at the pipeline. The current RLNG reserves have decreased in record time according to SNGPL sources, and as of now, there is a very limited gas supply at around 700 million cubic feet (mmcfd) compared to 1,200 mmcfd before the Iran/US conflict.
Based on SNGPL sources, it’s estimated that the total gas in supply is now approximately 600 million cubic feet.
According to sources, gas supply has come down to only 700 million cubic feet, which was 1200 million cubic feet per day before the Iran-US war. Sources in Sui Northern say that the gas shortfall has exceeded 600 million cubic feet.
Domestic consumers are also facing reduced supply, although Sui Gas authorities maintain that full gas pressure is being ensured during peak cooking hours.
On the other hand, Sui Gas officials say that full gas is being supplied during all three meal times. Also, officials warn that unless RLNG imports resume soon, the situation may worsen, putting additional strain on industries and households already dealing with energy shortages.
