Ramazan Counters established at 71 Superstores on the directives of Commissioner Karachi

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Feb, 2026) As many as 71 superstores across the city have established Ramazan Counters, on the directives of Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi.

The Commissioner has instructed all Deputy Commissioners to ensure that basic commodities available at

these counters are of standard quality and sold at official government prices, said a spokesperson

on Monday.

The Commissioner stated that the campaign against profiteers will continue. The Commissioner’s Office has issued a report detailing the fifth day of operations against those involved in overcharging.

According to the report, 240 profiteers were penalized on the fifth day, with total fines amounting to Rs 2.174 million. Additionally, actions were taken at 126 locations to enforce official pricing.

In total, on the fifth day, 2,748 kilograms of goods worth more than Rs 1.468 million were auctioned. These included 1,411 kilograms of fruits worth Rs. 362,780, 453 kilograms of vegetables worth over Rs. 13,000, 608 kilograms of meat and poultry worth Rs. 727,000, and 276 kilograms of grocery items worth Rs. 39,708.

The Assistant Commissioners supervised these auction operations.

According to the Commissioner’s Office report, prices were checked at 1,116 locations.

Over the past five days, action has been taken against a total of 1,180 profiteers, with more than Rs. 10.6 million in fines imposed.

Throughout this period, Assistant Commissioners and Mukhtiarkars inspected 4,221 locations and ensured that goods were sold at official rates in 533 markets.

Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has directed all Deputy Commissioners to personally monitor the Commissioner’s Counters at the superstores.

He also instructed that Assistant Commissioners must regularly visit markets, bazaars, and superstores within their respective subdivisions to check prices and quality of goods.

He further emphasized that the availability of essential Ramazan items must be ensured, official price lists should be prominently displayed, and all items should meet quality standards.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioners briefed the Commissioner on the details of the established counters.

They reported that a total of 71 large and small superstores across the city have set up Commissioner’s Ramazan Counters, where all grocery items are available at official government prices.
