KOHAT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Feb, 2026) District Administration Kohat on Monday launched an aggressive crackdown against overpricing and the sale of unhygienic meat across key markets of the city in order to safeguard consumers during the holy month of Ramadan. Acting on persistent public complaints, Deputy Commissioner Kohat, Muhammad Nawaz, ordered a targeted operation in the bustling Bannu Road and Itwar Mandi areas.

Consequently, inspection teams carried out coordinated raids to ensure that essential food items were being sold at officially approved rates and under proper sanitary conditions.

Under the close supervision of Assistant Commissioner (HQ) and Naib Tehsildar Kohat, Miraj Khan, and accompanied by the SHO of Mills Area, authorities meticulously inspected butcher shops and grocery outlets. During the operation, officials recovered unhealthy minced meat and promptly registered cases against the violators; moreover, the accused were handed over to police for further legal action.

Notably, local residents warmly welcomed the firm and timely intervention, while Miraj Khan categorically stated that inspections would continue throughout Ramadan. He further urged citizens to report violations so that swift action could be taken accordingly.

Meanwhile, in a parallel initiative, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Hamid Iqbal conducted an emergency visit to KDA Market, covering milk shops, grocery stores, butcher outlets, and fruit vendors. In addition, shopkeepers were strictly instructed to prominently display official price lists and maintain exemplary cleanliness standards. However, the ADC warned that any attempt at profiteering or non-compliance would invite strict penalties without exception. Therefore, citizens were encouraged to remain vigilant and immediately report any irregularities to the designated complaint numbers.

In another significant development, Additional Assistant Commissioner Dilnawaz Khan spearheaded a robust enforcement drive, seizing 21 kilograms of substandard minced meat and sealing multiple shops found violating price regulations. Furthermore, five customers were refunded the excess amount charged, thereby reinforcing the administration’s commitment to transparency and fairness. Officials from the Livestock and Food Departments accompanied the operation, ensuring a comprehensive approach to market regulation.
