Rain and hailstorm bring pleasant weather

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th May, 2026) A spell of light-to-moderate rain accompanied by hailstorm lashed several parts of Lahore on Wednesday, bringing a significant drop in temperature and turning the weather pleasant after days of intense heat and humidity.

Dark clouds covered the city in the afternoon, followed by strong winds, thunder and heavy rainfall in various localities including Gulshan e Ravi, Samanabad Gulberg, Model Town, Johar Town, Canal Road, Mall Road and surrounding areas. In several neighbourhoods, hailstones also fell for a short duration, delighting residents who came outdoors to enjoy the cool weather.

The sudden change in weather provided much-needed relief to citizens from the prevailing hot conditions. Parks, markets and roadside eateries witnessed increased public activity as people enjoyed the cool breeze and refreshing atmosphere after the rain.

However, the downpour also caused difficulties in low-lying areas where rainwater accumulated on roads and streets, leading to traffic congestion on major roads and intersections.

Commuters faced slow movement of traffic during peak hours, while motorcyclists and pedestrians struggled due to slippery roads and reduced visibility caused by the rain.

Power outages were also reported in some parts of the city after strong winds and rain affected electricity feeders. Rescue and municipal teams remained alert to deal with any emergency situation and ensure drainage of rainwater from vulnerable areas.

Mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country including Punjab. However, partly cloudy weather is expected in upper hilly areas/northern Balochistan during afternoon. While, rain-wind/thunderstorm with gusty winds is likely at isolated places in Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas, said by Pakistan Meteorological Department.
