QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) Acting on the directives of the Balochistan High Court, Commissioner Quetta Division Shahzaib Khan Kakar chaired a high-level meeting to address long-standing civic issues on Joint Road, including shop encroachments, traffic congestion, and public convenience.

The meeting was attended by Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Zahid Khan, Assistant Commissioner City Amir Hamza, officials from Pakistan Railways, district administration, traffic police, relevant departments, and senior lawyers. Participants reviewed the challenges faced on Joint Road and adopted several key decisions aimed at permanent solutions.

A special team will be formed to assess the basic needs of Railway Society residents and conduct a detailed survey of shops, business activities, parking facilities, and traffic conditions along Joint Road. The team will present its findings to guide future planning.

The Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioner Quetta, Metropolitan Corporation, and traffic police to launch joint operations against encroachments and illegal pushcarts. A comprehensive survey will also be carried out to determine the total number of shops and their legal status. This survey will be conducted with the support of Metropolitan Corporation, Tehsil administration, Pakistan Railways, and modern GPS technology to ensure accuracy between official records and ground realities.

Commissioner Shahzaib Kakar emphasized that all measures will be aligned with the High Court’s orders to ensure lasting solutions. He instructed the construction of public washrooms for shopkeepers and visitors, stressing that Joint Road has already been declared a “No Cart Zone,” and no illegal vending or roadside businesses will be permitted.

The meeting also decided to take action against service providers operating in vehicles outside hotels, as such practices contribute to traffic jams and overcrowding. The Commissioner reiterated that under the Quetta Development Package, commercial activities are not allowed on the road expansion projects, and the Deputy Commissioner has already imposed restrictions in this regard.

Acknowledging concerns over the conversion of residential land into commercial areas, Kakar assured that a balanced and practical mechanism would be adopted to address the issue in consultation with all stakeholders.

Participants pledged full cooperation among institutions to resolve Joint Road’s problems, improve traffic flow, and enhance civic facilities for residents.
