PWPA Chairperson takes notice of setting woman on fire in Jatoi area

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th May, 2026) Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) Chairperson Hina Parvez Butt on Monday took notice of an incident in which a woman was allegedly set on fire in Jatoi area of Muzaffargarh and sought a report from the District Police Officer (DPO) Muzaffargarh.

According to the initial report, Fauzia Bibi was allegedly set ablaze by her brothers-in-law over a domestic dispute, leaving her critically injured. She was shifted to the Burn Centre Multan in serious condition for medical treatment.

Chairperson Hina Parvez Butt said police had acted promptly by registering a case and arresting all three nominated suspects. She directed the authorities to ensure a transparent and merit-based investigation into the incident.

She also instructed that the victim be provided the best possible medical treatment and that strict legal action be taken against the accused in accordance with the law.

Condemning the incident in strong terms, Hina Parvez Butt said those involved in setting women on fire, subjecting them to violence and attempting to take their lives deserved no leniency. She said such brutal elements would be made an example to deter others from committing violence against women.

She further said that no compromise would be made on the protection of women in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The Punjab government, she added, would provide every possible legal, medical and protective assistance to the affected woman. “Safe Punjab for women is our commitment,” she remarked.
