LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) Chairperson Hina Parvez Butt on Wednesday expressed deep grief and outrage over the murder of a seven-year-old girl, Munteha, in Sargodha after an alleged attempted sexual assault, terming the incident a tragic and intolerable crime against humanity.

In a statement, she said that targeting an innocent child and then killing her was an inhuman act and those involved in such crimes deserved no leniency. She said the fate met by the accused should serve as a warning to anyone contemplating attacks on the dignity, life or honour of innocent girls.

Hina Parvez Butt said the Punjab government was pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against violence, sexual abuse and other crimes targeting women and girls under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for a safe environment for women.

Referring to the police report, she said a shop employee, identified as Arslan, allegedly attempted to sexually assault the child and stabbed her to death when she resisted and raised an alarm.

She added that crime scene processing and legal formalities had been completed by the authorities.

She said crimes against innocent children and girls were a serious threat to society and such offenders had no place in a civilized community. She vowed that there would be no compromise on cases involving sexual violence, attempted rape and murder of girls, adding that immediate action, thorough investigation, effective prosecution and swift justice would be ensured.

The chairperson appreciated the prompt response of Sargodha Police, including tracing the accused through CCTV footage, recovering the victim’s body and seizing the alleged murder weapon, while emphasizing that society as a whole must play its role in preventing such incidents.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, she prayed that may Allah Almighty grant the deceased child the highest ranks in Jannah and give her family strength to bear the irreparable loss.
