RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th May, 2026) A farmer from Attock, Shafiq Ahmed, has secured second position across Punjab in the wheat yield competition organized by the Agriculture Extension Department under the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
According to the details, Shafiq Ahmed achieved a yield of 69.970 maunds (2.8 tons approx) per acre and was declared eligible for a 75-horsepower tractor as a reward for his performance.
Farmers from across the province participated in the competition, while a committee of experts carried out a thorough evaluation process. Harvesting and threshing of the selected wheat plots were also conducted under strict supervision to ensure transparency.
Under the competition, farmers securing first, second and third positions at the district level will be awarded cash prizes of Rs.

Meanwhile, verified data showed that wheat cultivation in Rawalpindi Division increased by 36,000 acres compared to last year, while per-acre yield recorded an increase of around 4 maunds. The recovery rate of interest-free agricultural loans provided to farmers remained at 97%, reflecting a positive trend in the sector.
The initiative by CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif aims to encourage farmers to adopt modern agricultural practices and increase per-acre yield, ultimately boosting farm income and strengthening the agriculture sector, officials added.
