ATTOCK, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th May, 2026) Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan on Sunday said the Punjab government was making concerted efforts to provide modern, safe and affordable transport facilities to people across the province, adding that preparations for the launch of the electric green bus service in Attock had entered the final phase.

He expressed these views while chairing a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner Office in Attock. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Attock Rao Atif Raza, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Waqar Aslam Marth, Assistant Commissioner Attock Arif Qureshi, Secretary Regional Transport Authority Sardar Zaheer Ahmad Khan, PML-N ticket holder Malik Hameed Akbar Khan, DSP Traffic Khurram Shehzad, Sheikh Ajmal Mehmood, Mir Naveed Akhtar, Malik Ansar and other officials.

The provincial minister appreciated the performance of the Regional Transport Authority Attock and expressed hope that the department would continue delivering quality public services in the future.

Later, Bilal Akbar Khan visited the General Bus Stand and Electric Vehicle Stand to review arrangements for the green bus project and public transport facilities.

Talking to media persons, he said the Punjab government, under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, was establishing a network of modern electric buses across the province. He added that the green buses for Attock had already arrived and the charging system was near completion, while the service was likely to become operational within eight to nine days after Eidul Azha.

Officials informed the minister that facilities including cleanliness arrangements, cold drinking water, complaint counters and measures against overcharging had been ensured at the General Bus Stand.

The minister said the environmentally friendly buses, with a fare of Rs20, would operate without smoke and noise pollution. He added that the buses would provide modern facilities including mobile charging ports, a cashless card system, separate compartments for women, security cameras and panic buttons.

Speaking about Eid travel arrangements, officials said the government was following a zero-tolerance policy against overcharging and transport violations to provide maximum relief to passengers.

They said severe rush in markets and busy commercial areas caused difficulties for citizens, particularly elderly people, women and children, adding that work was underway to make various areas “walkable” while electric carts were also being introduced for public convenience.

The officials revealed that during a recent crackdown in Lahore, 18 vehicles were impounded and cases were registered against eight to nine transporters over fare violations, while the relevant administrator was also suspended.

They warned that the government would not tolerate overcharging, carrying passengers on rooftops or charging extra fares through illegal seating arrangements. Surveillance cameras had been installed at various locations and strict action was being taken against violators.

Officials further said all monitoring teams would remain active during Eid holidays and after Eid return travel, while the district administration was working round the clock to ensure safe and better transport facilities for the public.
