LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Feb, 2026) The Punjab government has decided to launch a pilot project to eliminate child labour and reconnect child labourers with education.
According to official sources, the aim of the project is to take children out of hard labour and bring them to school and technical training. Officials say that in the initial phase, a pilot phase will be launched on an emergency basis in nine districts, under which 2566 children will be provided financial assistance.
A conditional cash transfer programme will be introduced to keep children connected to education, under which each deserving child will be given Rs 9,000 monthly assistance.
The assistance will be transferred to the children’s digital accounts and the first installment will be released one month after the official launch of the project.
A total of Rs 300 million has been allocated for the pilot phase. According to the official sources, the project will be effective for one year from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027.
A coordinated approach will be adopted for identifying children and case follow-up so that the assistance reaches the deserving children in a transparent manner.
Officials say that if the pilot phase is successful, the program will be expanded across the province in phases.
