Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz orders Punjab theatres to remain closed throughout Ramadan 2026. The instruction was given to observe the sanctity of the holy month by the Punjab Arts Council February 18, 2026. This is after years of attempt to suppress vulgarity in performances with strict policies to control any breach of these rules in the province.

Punjab authorities keep Punjab theatres shut throughout Ramadan 2026. The decision comes directly from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The Punjab Arts Council sent out the official notification on February 18. It targets all venues—stage theatres, drama theatres, cinemas, and film theatres. No shows run during the month.

Theatre owners hold the responsibility. License holders and producers follow the same rules. District administrations handle enforcement. Any operation leads to strict action and disciplinary steps.

The major reason is the sanctity of Ramadan. Governments are trying to honor religious principles, fasting and maintain social order. Other governmental actions in recent years are aimed at the vulgarity in the industry- lifetime prohibitions of actors who promote obscenity, prohibition of 132 vulgar songs in stage productions, and cancellation of licenses of theatres distributing indecent material.

This Ramadan closure ties into that broader push. Officials want family-friendly entertainment only. Past actions under the current administration show zero tolerance for vulgar performances, especially in theatres.

Ramadan 2026 kicked off around February 18–19 in Pakistan after moon sighting. It continues until mid-March, roughly March 18–19 for Eid. The full-month ban on Punjab theatres allows no public screenings or performances.
