Punjab moves to establish Film City Authority to boost film industry

LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 22^nd, 2026) The Punjab government on Wednesday took a step toward promoting the provincial film industry by deciding to establish the Punjab Film City Authority.

The Punjab Film City Authority Act 2025 has been presented in the Punjab Assembly, proposing a structured framework for the development and regulation of film, drama, and documentary production under official support.

According to the bill, the proposed authority will be funded by the Punjab government. It also outlines the introduction of a new film policy, regulatory rules, and a comprehensive licensing system to facilitate the industry.

Under the proposed framework, filmmakers will be provided with facilities, permissions, and a one-window operation system to simplify administrative procedures. The bill also includes special incentives aimed at encouraging both local and foreign investment in the film sector.

It further states that the initiative will help highlight Punjab’s culture, tourism, and positive image through film and media productions.

The bill has been referred to the relevant committee for detailed review for a period of two months. After the committee submits its report, the legislation will be presented for approval in the Punjab Assembly.
