Punjab Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar Khan met Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim at his office, where he was given a comprehensive briefing on traffic management initiatives, public service delivery as well as ongoing reforms undertaken by Lahore Traffic Police

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Punjab Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar Khan met Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim at his office, where he was given a comprehensive briefing on traffic management initiatives, public service delivery as well as ongoing reforms undertaken by Lahore Traffic Police.

The minister was briefed on infrastructure development, the Smart Traffic Management System, the Rasta App, and the E-Challaning System. Detailed presentations were also given on licensing operations, monitoring mechanisms, and service infrastructure aimed at improving public facilitation and road safety.

During the briefing, CTO informed the minister that more than 8.1 million vehicles were registered in Lahore, including approximately 250,000 rickshaws and 200,000 commercial vehicles.

Abdul Rahim Shirazi stated that, in line with the special directives of Punjab chief minister, the provision of citizen-centric police services, traffic education, and effective enforcement remain the top priorities of Lahore Traffic Police.

The CTO further informed that QR-based Panic Buttons were being installed in rickshaws and public service vehicles to enhance the safety and security of women commuters.

Highlighting recent achievements, he shared that helmet compliance had reached 95 percent, while lane-line violations and one-way traffic violations had been reduced by 71 percent and 64 percent, respectively, through focused enforcement campaigns.

The CTO also presented several recommendations to the minister, including the redesigning of bus bays on Main Boulevard Road, installation of tracker systems in commercial vehicles, and provision of two mobile vans for issuing fitness certificates at Lorry Adda, Truck Stand, and other transport hubs to facilitate transporters.

He further proposed the integration of route permit and vehicle fitness certificate data into a unified digital platform under the “One App” initiative to improve accessibility and efficiency for transport operators and citizens alike.

The minister was also informed that traffic-related calls received on Helpline 15 had decreased significantly, while emergency measures were being implemented to prevent road traffic crashes and improve road safety standards across the city.

The CTO noted that strict enforcement measures had resulted in a 300 percent increase in the issuance of commercial driving licences, reflecting greater compliance within the transport sector.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan appreciated the efforts of Lahore Traffic Police in ensuring smooth traffic flow, enhancing public convenience, and promoting road safety. He reaffirmed the Punjab government’s commitment to supporting modern, technology-driven solutions for an efficient, safe, and sustainable urban transport system.
