LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jun, 2026) Punjab Minister for Law Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan on Tuesday paid tribute to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for allocating record funds in the provincial budget 2026-27 to strengthen law and order, prevent crime and enhance the operational capacity of law enforcement agencies.
In a statement, he said the chief minister's vision for public safety, rule of law and protection of citizens was commendable and reflected the Punjab government's commitment to ensuring a secure environment across the province.
Rana Muhammad Iqbal said a total of Rs 252 billion had been allocated for police and allied institutions in the fiscal year 2026-27 to strengthen law and order and safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
He said the allocation would support the expansion of the CM Smart Safe Cities Project and CM Tehsils Smart Safe Cities Project, under which modern digital surveillance infrastructure, advanced camera networks, command and control systems, data analytics platforms and regional data centres would be established across Punjab.
The minister said more than Rs 47 billion had been earmarked for these initiatives to improve crime prevention, enhance public safety and strengthen the operational effectiveness of law enforcement agencies.
He added that the operational capacity of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) would be enhanced through the provision of armoured vehicles, advanced surveillance equipment, anti-drone technology, modern weapons and protective gear.
Rana Iqbal said the budget also included AI-based predictive analytics systems and the establishment of a Counter Narrative and Cognitive Security Wing to counter terrorism, extremism and anti-state activities.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>To promote transparent and efficient policing, panic buttons, body-worn cameras and digital evidence recording systems would be installed at police stations, police posts and Punjab Highway Patrol units across the province, he said.
The minister said a proposal had also been included to provide 6,000 body cameras to the Traffic Police to further improve transparency, accountability and public confidence.
He said substantial funds had been allocated for the procurement of armoured security vehicles, drones, night-vision goggles, thermal imaging systems, GSM locators, modern weapons, ammunition and uniforms, besides rehabilitation and upgradation of police vehicles.
The law minister said the budget proposed construction of new police stations, police posts and police pickets at a cost of Rs 2.20 billion to improve policing services and public access to law enforcement.
He added that Crime Scene Units would be established in 28 districts at a cost of Rs 1.421 billion to ensure scientific collection, preservation, analysis and transfer of forensic evidence in line with international standards.
Rana Muhammad Iqbal expressed confidence that under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, these initiatives would strengthen the rule of law, improve public safety, facilitate swift justice and promote modern policing standards across Punjab.
