Punjab issues advisory for citrus orchards' care

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Jul, 2026) The Punjab Agriculture department has issued advisory for citrus growers, urging them to adopt timely orchard management practices during July 2026 to protect their crops from pests, diseases, and adverse weather conditions associated with the monsoon season.

Agriculture spokesman warned in a statement on Friday that citrus orchards are likely to face increased attacks from insect pests and fungal diseases during the rainy season. Growers have been advised to arrange appropriate fungicides and insecticides in consultation with local experts of the Agriculture department.

Officials have recommended irrigating citrus orchards maintaining fifteen-day intervals, while ensuring proper drainage to prevent waterlogging after rainfall.

Farmers have also been advised to spray Bordeaux mixture or copper-based fungicides following rains to minimize the risk of fungal infections.

The advisory further recommends applying the third dose of nitrogen fertilizer during July to support healthy tree growth and fruit development.

To control fruit fly infestations, growers have been instructed to replace the insecticide-treated cotton wicks in fruit fly traps every 15 days to maintain their effectiveness.

The spokesman advised citrus growers to follow the recommended practices to ensure healthy orchards, improve fruit quality, and achieve better yields during the current season.
