Punjab govt ensures steady supply of quality flour at controlled prices in Rawalpindi division

WAH CANTT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) The Punjab government’s campaign to ensure the availability of quality flour at officially controlled prices is producing encouraging results across the Rawalpindi Division, with residents reporting steady and uninterrupted access to the essential commodity. The initiative is being implemented under the vision of Maryam Nawaz Sharif and the directives of Food Department authorities to stabilize supply and protect consumers.

According to officials, Deputy Director Food (FS&CPD) Rawalpindi Division Sardar Saif Ullah Khan Joiya has actively intensified monitoring and enforcement measures therefore ensuring that flour remains available at government-fixed prices. Moreover, the districts of Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum — which previously faced frequent flour shortages — are now witnessing consistent availability of standard-quality flour in local markets.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting with the Flour Mills Association on Thursday, Joiya said that strictly enforced monitoring mechanisms and decisive action against hoarding, illegal stock diversion and smuggling have significantly improved the supply chain.

Consequently, the distribution system has become more efficient, enabling flour to reach consumers promptly without artificial shortages or price manipulation.

He added that authorities are regularly conducting field inspections and maintaining vigilance to curb profiteering and protect public interests. Furthermore, strict oversight of flour mills and distribution channels has helped maintain price discipline across the division, while strengthening transparency and accountability within the system.

Officials said the current improvement reflects a broader provincial strategy aimed at ensuring food security and affordability during challenging economic conditions. Meanwhile, initiatives such as regulated sale points and effective price control measures are expected to further reinforce consumer relief and restore public confidence in governance across northern Punjab.
