Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Monday seized 870 kilograms of illegally processed fat rendering oil, along with storage drums and a transport vehicle, foiling an attempt to introduce the product into the food supply chain, officials said

CHINIOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jul, 2026) The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Monday seized 870 kilograms of illegally processed fat rendering oil, along with storage drums and a transport vehicle, foiling an attempt to introduce the product into the food supply chain, officials said.

A PFA spokesperson said the operation was carried out near Tehsil Chowk on the directions of Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed. Food safety teams intercepted vehicle FSL-7654 and recovered large quantities of oil produced from animal fat. Authorities registered a case against the suspect for operating without a valid licence and failing to maintain the required documentation.

The spokesperson said laboratory standards require fat rendering oil to be mixed with methanol dye to distinguish it from edible products.

The seized oil had not been treated with the mandatory dye and was produced from animal fat and other impurities. Officials said such oil is legally meant only for industrial purposes, including biodiesel production and soap manufacturing, and its use in cooking oil is a serious violation of food safety laws.

Punjab Food Authority Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed urged the public to help curb food adulteration by reporting suspected illegal food businesses or fraudulent operators through the PFA helpline 1223, reaffirming the authority's commitment to protecting public health through strict enforcement.
