LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jun, 2026) The Punjab Counter Narcotics Force (CNF) foiled a major drug smuggling attempt during an intelligence-based operation near Raiwind Chowk in Kasur district, arresting a serving police constable and an alleged drug trafficker while recovering 314.7 kilograms of narcotics worth over Rs70 million.
According to a spokesperson on Thursday, the District Narcotics Control Squad (NCS) Kasur conducted the operation after closely monitoring the suspects through surveillance and intelligence gathering. The arrested accused were identified as serving police constable Muhammad Zaman Tufail and veterinary doctor Dr Aqib Raza, who was described as a notorious drug trafficker.
The CNF recovered 93 kilograms of opium and 221.7 kilograms of hashish concealed in two vehicles. Officials said the seized narcotics had an estimated market value exceeding Rs70 million.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the contraband was being transported from Multan for distribution in various areas of Lahore and Kasur. The suspects were allegedly planning to supply narcotics to different localities, including educational institutions.

Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Muhammad Masood Mukhtar termed the Raiwind Chowk operation a significant achievement of the Punjab Counter Narcotics Force, saying the department was conducting indiscriminate operations against drug traffickers in line with the Punjab government’s policy to eliminate narcotics from society.
Director General Commander Punjab Counter Narcotics Force Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal said drug trafficking was a serious crime that threatened the future of the country’s youth. He reiterated the force’s commitment to continuing anti-narcotics operations with full determination under a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking.
The arrested suspects have been taken into custody while further investigation is underway.
