Punjab Cabinet Committee on Law and Order on Tuesday reviewed security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram in Multa
MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Jun, 2026) Punjab Cabinet Committee on Law and Order on Tuesday reviewed security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram in Multan.
The meeting, held on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, was attended by Provincial Minister and Committee Chairman Khawaja Salman Rafique, Co-Chairman Bilal Yaseen, Provincial Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi and senior police and security officials.
Commissioner Multan Amir Karim Khan and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Usman Akram Gondal briefed the committee on security plans for Muharram processions and religious gatherings.
Officials informed the meeting that elaborate security arrangements had been finalized for 907 processions and 3,173 majalis across Multan division. As part of preventive measures, orders had been issued for the district confinement of 82 religious speakers and zakirs, while 60 individuals had been barred from making public speeches. Authorities had also placed 238 persons on the Fourth schedule.
To strengthen security during Muharram, five companies of the Pakistan Army and six companies of Rangers would be deployed to assist the police.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said the provincial government was ensuring extraordinary security arrangements for Muharram and monitoring the situation across Punjab through the Home department’s central control room.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>“Peaceful observance of Muharram is a collective responsibility. Religious scholars and leaders of all schools of thought are playing a commendable role in promoting inter-sect harmony and unity,” he said.
Bilal Yaseen said special arrangements were being made for sabeels across the province on the directions of the Chief Minister, adding that peace committees remained active and were contributing positively to maintaining communal harmony.
Provincial Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani emphasized the need for proper training of volunteers assigned to majalis and procession duties, while directing authorities to ensure adequate facilities along procession routes.
Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi said cyber patrolling cells had been directed to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against the dissemination of sectarian and hate material. He added that the Home department’s Muharram Online Portal was fully functional.
Deputy commissioners and district police officers from Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran and Vehari also attended the meeting.
The cabinet committee also visited the Muharram procession routes and Imam Bargahas in the city. The committee also met with divisional peace committee and Ulema regarding Muharram.
