Exemptions have been allowed for indoor events such as weddings and corporate functions, provided event organizers ensure safe operations
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Feb 25th, 2026) The Punjab Home Department has issued an immediate 30-day ban on all outdoor drone operations across the province, citing security concerns and credible reports of potential risks. The order, issued on February 25, 2026, warns that unregulated drone flights could endanger public safety, damage private property, and disrupt law and order.
The restriction, imposed under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, covers all outdoor drone activities in Punjab. Exemptions have been allowed for indoor events such as weddings and corporate functions, provided event organizers ensure safe operations. Drones used by law enforcement or intelligence agencies for official duties are also excluded from the ban.
Authorities emphasized that the measure is crucial for safeguarding citizens and protecting sensitive installations. Officials noted that uncontrolled drone activity could interfere with official operations and disturb the peaceful environment of the province. The notification has been circulated to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Divisional Commissioners, and Deputy Commissioners to ensure strict enforcement at all district levels.
The order is effective immediately and will remain in force for 30 days unless revoked earlier.

Separately, Punjab has taken additional steps to strengthen security infrastructure. On February 24, the province established the Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (PIFTAC), becoming the first province in Pakistan to do so. During her visit to PIFTAC, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved the creation of an anti-drone unit and directed the immediate formation of a cybercrime cell.
The chief minister also instructed continuous security operations, installation of advanced digital scanners at all entry and exit points, and the development of a special dashboard for district deputy commissioners to enhance monitoring. She emphasized a proactive approach to security, including pre-emptive action against criminal and terrorist activities, and announced the establishment of an AI hub within PIFTAC to boost cyber capabilities. CM Maryam affirmed that the government is committed to making Punjab the safest province in the country.
