ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ahson Qavi Siddiqi strongly emphasized that raising public awareness about HIV/AIDS is essential, urging people to avoid quacks, unhygienic barber shops, and unauthorized medical practices, while also calling for an end to social taboos that continue to fuel the spread of the disease.
In an exclusive talk with a local media outlet, Dr. Ahson Qavi Siddiqi stated that HIV is spreading in different segments of society adding that lack of awareness and unsafe practices continue to drive new infections.
He warned people against visiting beauty salons, barbers and small unauthorized clinics where hygiene standards are often ignored, including the reuse of syringes and unsterilized equipment, which significantly increases the risk of HIV transmission.
Dr. Siddiqi urged citizens to adopt safe health practices and avoid such risky service providers, stressing that prevention through awareness is the most effective way to control the spread of the disease.
He warned that SHCC is taking strict action against quacks and illegal medical setups, along with imposing penalties to ensure public safety and reduce the rising threat of HIV.
He further explained that HIV spreads mainly through blood-to-blood contact, unsafe injections, contaminated surgical instruments, and the reuse of syringes.
He noted that many infections occur due to negligence in basic hygiene practices and lack of proper sterilization in informal healthcare settings.
He added that the disease often spreads when people are unaware of safe medical procedures or seek treatment from unqualified practitioners.
Dr. Siddiqi advised the public to always ensure the use of new syringes, sterilized equipment, and certified medical professionals.
He urged people to remain vigilant, prioritize safety, and immediately report any suspicious or unsafe healthcare practices to authorities.
