PU holds lecture, debate on Iqbal’s concept of Khudi

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2026) The Department of Gender Studies at Punjab University organised a lecture and debate competition to mark the death anniversary of Allama Iqbal, focusing on his concept of Khudi and its relevance in the modern era.

The event was attended by Chairperson DGS Prof Dr Rubeena Zakar, former Director Iqbal academy Pakistan Prof Dr Baseera Ambreen, faculty members and students. Participants engaged in a debate competition centered on Iqbal’s philosophy, presenting insightful arguments on its application to contemporary challenges.

In her address, Dr Rubeena Zakar welcomed the participants and appreciated the efforts of the literary society in promoting critical thinking and intellectual engagement among students.

She emphasized the importance of Iqbal’s message for youth empowerment and self-realization through the concept of Khudi.

Dr Baseera Ambreen highlighted the significance of debating skills and encouraged students to develop clarity of thought and expression. She also underlined the importance of understanding and accurately reciting Iqbal’s poetry as a way of connecting with his philosophical vision.
