KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2026) The project for rehabilitation, expansion and beautification of Malir Halt to Ghaghar Phatak Road was reviewed in a meeting on Tuesday, with emphasis on swift completion of the project for improving infrastructure, traffic flow, road safety and facilitate a large number of commuters.

The 30.5 kilometer long road was an important gateway corridor for traffic entering Karachi from the National Highway, Thatta and adjacent areas and Sindh cabinet has already approved Rs 2.55 billion for the project.

The meeting, jointly chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah and Provincial Minister for Works and Services Ali Hassan Zardari, reviewed the project in detail with consideration to the upgradation, traffic management, removal of encroachments, busways, bus stops, U-turns and other facilities, said a statement issued here.

This highway was of great importance for urban, regional, passenger and commercial traffic, and its rehabilitation and expansion was essential for improving traffic flow, road safety and urban amenities in the city, the meeting was informed.

The Chief Secretary Sindh said the aim of this project was not just to repair the road but to transform Karachi’s entry point into a safe, organized, beautiful and people-friendly urban boulevard.

He stressed on removal of encroachments for ensuring uninterrupted development work and maintaining traffic discipline, and said that a coordinated strategy should be adopted for alternative routes, traffic diversions and public awareness so that citizens, daily commuters and passengers may face minimum difficulties during the construction period, especially on working days.

Ali Hassan Zardari said that this road was one of the main internal arteries of Karachi, therefore it would be improved according to modern standards for improving traffic management and enhancing the beauty and urban identity of Karachi’s entry route.

The minister assured that the Works and Services Department would ensure timely and quality completion of the project in close coordination with all relevant agencies to provide relief to the citizens.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, Secretary Works and Services Muhammad Nawaz Soho, Deputy Inspector General Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah, Deputy Commissioner Malir, Deputy Commissioner Korangi and other officers concerned.
