ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th May, 2026) The eighteenth death anniversary of noted poet Prof. Asghar Saudai, the creator of the famous Pakistan Movement slogan that inspired the struggle for an independent homeland, was observed on Sunday with rich tributes to his literary and national services.
Born on September 17, 1926, in Sialkot, he received his early education from Murray College Sialkot and Islamia College Lahore. It was during this era that he coined the famous Pakistan Movement slogan “Pakistan Ka Matlab Kya, La Ilaha Illallah,” which became a powerful expression of the demand for a separate homeland.
He later joined Islamia College Sialkot as a lecturer and remained associated with the field of education and literature throughout his life.

People from different walks of life, including family members, admirers and literary circles, paid homage to him through social media messages and by laying floral wreaths on his grave. Fateha was also offered for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Politicians and family members paid glowing tribute to the late professor, saying his services for the Pakistan Movement and urdu literature would always be remembered and that his legacy would continue to inspire future
generations.
