OSLO, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2026) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Norway was met with a storm of protests as members of the Sikh diaspora and Khalistan activists turned his diplomatic engagement into a global exposure of India’s human rights record and transnational repression.
Outside the Oslo City Hall, where Modi was scheduled for high-profile meetings, hundreds of demonstrators waving Khalistan flags and chanting slogans against the Hindutva ideology challenged New Delhi’s international image.
The protesters condemned the Modi regime of orchestrating a systematic campaign to silence dissent, specifically targeting pro-Khalistan voices through intimidation and extrajudicial actions on foreign soil.
The demonstrations turned the bilateral summit into a politically charged confrontation.
They questioned Norway’s decision to honor a leader with the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit—the nation’s highest honor—while his government is increasingly accused of “transnational repression.”
The demonstrators emphasized that awards and trade agreements cannot erase the growing international scrutiny over India’s treatment of minorities.
Images of protesters tearing the Indian tricolor and raising the Khalistan flag went viral, reinforcing the message that the movement for Punjab’s independence continues to resonate globally despite India’s attempts to isolate it diplomatically.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) had announced a massive expansion of its Khalistan Referendum rallies across the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy.
The organization stated that these rallies are designed to confront Modi during his Nordic Summit tour and expose the “econocide” of Punjab.
SFJ highlighted that India’s economic policies have systematically devastated Punjab’s agrarian economy, diverting water resources and driving thousands of Sikh farmers to suicide—a process they describe as “economic warfare.”
SFJ General Counsel Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a key figure in the global movement, issued a scathing statement condemning the hosting of the Indian leader by European democracies.
He said, “European and Nordic democracies are built on trust, peace, human rights, and the rule of law. Partnering with a regime accused globally of transnational repression and assassination plots on sovereign foreign soil contradicts the very values these nations claim to defend.”
Pannun vowed that the Khalistan Referendum rallies would ensure that questions of accountability follow Modi throughout his European tour.
