ATTOCK, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2026) A prisoner held at District Jail Attock died by suicide while in judicial custody, according to an initial report issued by jail authorities on Saturday.
A spokesperson for District Jail Attock confirmed that the deceased, Asif Ali, son of Sabir Ali and a resident of Attock district, was in custody in connection with a narcotics case. He was transferred to the jail on April 10, 2026.
Officials stated that the inmate had a history of multiple cases and was considered a habitual offender.
During his detention, he reportedly fell ill and was shifted to a hospital for treatment before being returned to the jail after recovery.
The jail administration further noted that no recorded family visits took place during his detention. Authorities also reported that the prisoner had been experiencing mental stress and personal difficulties, which may have contributed to the incident.
An internal review has been initiated to examine the circumstances surrounding the death, while standard procedural inquiries are underway.
