Prison literacy exams held in Gujrat jail

GUJRAT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2026) Examinations were held at literacy centres in District Jail Gujrat under the Chief Minister Prisoners Literacy Programme (CMPLP), in line with Punjab government jail reforms.

According to the jail authorities, five literacy centres have been established in the jail where inmates are being provided basic education under the supervision of Superintendent District Jail Gujrat Arshad Warraich.

On the previous day, exams were conducted at four literacy centres under the supervision of Superintendent Jail Arshad Warraich and Deputy Superintendent Malik Mustafa Ahmed.

A total of 192 inmates appeared in the exams, while eight inmates could not participate due to court hearings.

The examination process was monitored by Literacy Department representative Muhammad Usama. The exam for female inmates will be held on May 22.

Officials said the programme aims to educate inmates and help them become productive members of society by turning prisons into reformative institutions. They said the Punjab government is focusing on education, training, and positive activities to support inmates’ rehabilitation after release.
