Price control team fines shopkeepers for tampered scales, overcharging in Mirpur

MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Mar, 2026) A special mobile inspection team led by Special Magistrate Price Control Raja Waseem Afzal on Monday imposed fines on several edibles outlets for allegedly tampering with officially approved weighing instruments and charging excessive rates. The surprise crackdown was carried out at Khambal and along Allama Iqbal Road, targeting cylinder dealers, bakeries, chicken and poultry sellers, as well as fruit and vegetable vendors.

According to official sources, the team found a number of shopkeepers operating without stipulated measuring and weighing instruments, while others were accused of manipulating scales to overcharge customers.

Immediate fines were imposed on violators as part of the ongoing price control drive to protect consumers from exploitation.

The action was taken on the special directives of Secretary Industry, Labor and Welfare Sardar Adnan Khurshid and Deputy Commissioner Raja Sadaqat Khan, sources said.

During the operation, the inspection team warned food business operators to immediately rectify faulty or tampered scales, cautioning that strict legal action would follow against those found manipulating weighing equipment or charging inflated prices.
