Price control crackdown in Khanpur and Haripur, shops fined, sealed for overcharging during Ramazan

HARIPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Feb, 2026) The district administration Haripur on Saturday intensified its crackdown on profiteering during the holy month of Ramazan, imposed fines and sealed shops for overcharging and violating official price lists in Haripur and Khanpur.

Assistant Commissioner Khanpur, Junaid Khalid, conducted surprise inspections of fruit and vegetable vendors, butcher shops, and grocery stores across the subdivision. He checked the availability of official price lists, cleanliness conditions, and compliance with government-notified rates. Several shopkeepers were fined on the spot for overcharging and failing to display price lists. He warned traders that providing relief to citizens during Ramadan is the administration’s top priority and that profiteering and hoarding would not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Haripur, Muhammad Fasih Ishaq Abbasi, took immediate notice of public complaints received through social media and the Price Monitoring Desk and inspected beef shops on GT Road.

Several shops were sealed for selling meat at prices higher than the official rates, and legal action was initiated against the violators. The district administration reiterated that profiteering and artificial price hikes would not be allowed.

In a separate visit, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and Price Control Magistrate Humeira Mahmood toured various markets, including Circular Road, Mochi Bazaar, Darband Adda, GT Road, and Bakra Market, to review prices of essential commodities. She inspected fruit and vegetable outlets, grocery stores, and meat and milk shops, and checked weighing instruments to prevent overcharging.

She also interacted with citizens to ensure implementation of official rates and directed shopkeepers to prominently display price lists, warning that strict legal action would be taken against violators.
