US President Donald Trump has announced a temporary suspension of “Project Freedom,” which was aimed at clearing ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, he said the decision was made after reaching a consensus with Iran.

Trump stated that significant progress has been made toward a complete and final agreement with Iran.

He added, “The blockade will continue to be maintained in full force, but ‘Project Freedom’ (ship movements through the Strait of Hormuz) will be temporarily suspended for a short period to verify whether a final agreement can be concluded and signed.”

The US President further claimed that if Iran had developed nuclear weapons, “neither we nor Israel would exist.”

President Trump emphasized that this measure aims to assess the possibility of a negotiated settlement while reaffirming that the naval blockade against Iran remains in place. Consequently, U.S.-led operations supporting ship passage in the Strait of Hormuz are expected to be suspended for the time being.

Trump also noted that the suspension of Project Freedom would be short-term, during which the US would assess whether a final agreement with Iran is reached and formally signed.
