President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of Nehal Hashmi as the new Governor of Sindh on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The move replaces Kamran Tessori and places a senior Pakistan Muslim League-N leader in the key constitutional post in Pakistan’s most populous province.

Nehal Hashmi Becomes New Governor of Sindh After Federal Approval

A major constitutional change has taken place in Pakistan’s largest province. Nehal Hashmi, a senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League (N), will serve as the new Governor of Sindh after approval from President Asif Ali Zardari.

The development places Nehal Hashmi, the governor of Sindh, at the center of current political discussion across Pakistan. The appointment came on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Under Articles 48 and 101 of the Constitution of Pakistan, the president approved the summary and formally cleared the appointment of Nehal Hashmi as Governor of Sindh.

The president also signed the Commission of Appointment for the office.

Before assuming office, Nehal Hashmi will take the oath before the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court.

Nehal Hashmi replaces Kamran Tessori as Governor of Sindh

The appointment means Kamran Tessori, who served as Governor Sindh from October 2022 to March 2026, will leave the office.

Tessori belongs to Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P). His replacement with Nehal Hashmi governor Sindh has triggered political debate because the new Governor of Sindh now represents a different political party.

The change shifts the political balance around the Governor of Sindh position in Karachi and across the province.
