RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th May, 2026) A three-day anti-polio campaign was launched in Murree on Monday, with authorities urging parents to ensure vaccination of children under five to protect them from the crippling disease.

Deputy Commissioner Murree, Umar Awais Kiani, inaugurated the campaign along with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Health Dr Azhar Mehmood Abbasi by administering polio drops to children.

Health officials said that special teams had been constituted to visit households across urban and rural areas to vaccinate eligible children during the campaign.

Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner reaffirmed that eradication of polio was a national responsibility and required collective efforts from parents, religious scholars, teachers and civil society.

Dr Abbasi said that polio was a dangerous but preventable disease, adding that vaccination remained the most effective protection against lifelong disability.

Health authorities appealed to parents to cooperate with field teams and ensure their children receive polio drops, warning that even minor negligence could put a child at risk.
