Polio drive begins in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th May, 2026) A special polio vaccination campaign was formally inaugurated on Monday, with officials reiterating the government’s commitment to eradicate the disease.

Tahira Aurangzeb MNA, Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Culture Shazia Rizwan, and Parliamentary Secretary for Health Asma Naz Abbasi attended the ceremony, which was held at the Rural Health Centre Khayaban-e-Sir Syed.

Polio drops were administered to children, while parents were urged to vaccinate all children under five years of age to safeguard them from permanent disability.

Speaking on the occasion, the officials said eradication of polio remained a top national priority, adding that all institutions were working in coordination to achieve a polio-free Pakistan.

They described polio workers as frontline heroes performing their duties under challenging conditions.

CEO Health Rawalpindi Dr Ehsan said that special teams had been deployed across the district to conduct door-to-door vaccination as per schedule.
