MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jun, 2026) The Multan Police have placed the district on high security alert for Muharram-ul-Haram, finalizing comprehensive arrangements for the protection of 1,533 religious gatherings (Majalis) and 484 mourning processions across the district.
According to police sources, more than 4,293 police officers and personnel, assisted by 2,215 trained volunteers, will perform security duties during Muharram. Computerized route maps of all processions and Majalis have been prepared to ensure effective monitoring and deployment.
As per directives of the City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Ali Dogar, the Safe City Multan Control Room will conduct round-the-clock surveillance, while processions and gatherings will be monitored through drones, CCTV cameras, handy cams and surveillance vehicles. Plainclothes police personnel will also be deployed along procession routes for intelligence-based monitoring.
Police sources added that procession routes would be secured with barbed-wire barricades, while comprehensive checking would be carried out through metal detectors and walk-through gates. Mock exercises have already been conducted to enhance emergency preparedness, and special training of volunteers has been completed.
A detailed traffic diversion plan has also been finalized to maintain smooth traffic flow during processions. Security around markets, crowded commercial plazas, key intersections, recreational parks and graveyards will be further strengthened.
