MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Mar, 2026) A significant decline in major crimes has been recorded in Multan district during the first two months of 2026, reflecting improved law and order and effective policing, according to a comparative performance report issued by the police.
The report compares crime statistics from January 01 to March 10, 2026 with the same period in 2025 and shows a noticeable reduction in several categories of serious crimes.
According to the data, incidents of robbery declined by 57 percent, while cases of car theft dropped by 100 percent. Motorcycle snatching incidents decreased by 73 percent, and motorcycle theft cases showed a 61 percent reduction. Police officials said the decrease in these crimes indicates a clear improvement in the overall security situation in the district.
The comparative statistics further reveal that a total of 13,230 cases were registered in Multan district during the same period last year, whereas only 6,724 cases were recorded from January 01 to March 10, 2026. This marks a reduction of 6,506 cases, highlighting a substantial drop in overall crime.
Police also conducted more than 70 search operations in different parts of the district during this period.
The operations were aimed at arresting proclaimed offenders, taking action against habitual criminals, dismantling organized gangs and preventing street crime. Intelligence-based policing helped identify crime hotspots and enabled law enforcement agencies to take targeted action.
The report also shows a decline in murder cases. A total of 18 murder incidents were reported during the current period, compared to 22 cases in the same period last year. Similarly, cases of sexual assault dropped by 56 percent, with four cases reported this year compared to nine during the corresponding period in 2025.
In addition, robbery and highway robbery cases also witnessed reductions of 57 percent and 66 percent respectively, while other serious crimes also showed a clear downward trend.
Police officials attributed the decline in crime to effective policing strategies, increased patrolling and continuous operations against criminal elements.
CPO Sadiq Ali Dogar said in a statement that efforts were being further strengthened to ensure the safety and protection of citizens across the district.
